About the team and position
The Treasury Operations STC Fraud Investigator specializes in safeguarding Carvana's operations against sophisticated fraud schemes specific to title, payment kiting, odometer, and VIN integrity . You will be responsible for investigating highly sensitive odometer rollback and VIN swapping cases etc. , partnering directly with local law enforcement, third-party vendors, and internal teams to protect Carvana's brand and customers.

This role is critical to maintaining the trust and accuracy of Carvana's Sell-to-Carvana (STC) operations, ensuring fraudulent activity is identified and mitigated swiftly. You will see your insights have an immediate and tangible impact in a rapidly growing company.

What you'll be doing

• Conducting extensive investigations into odometer rollbacks, payment kiting, VIN swapping, and other title-related fraud by collecting evidence, analyzing documentation, and reporting findings.
• Collaborating with law enforcement agencies, DMVs, and third-party vendors to expedite fraud resolution.
• Communicating extensively with lienholders to gather payoff information and coordinate vehicle surrenders.
• Partnering with other teams in Treasury Operations, Legal and Compliance to recover vehicles and address fraud-related legal matters.
• Identifying trends and patterns in title and VIN fraud to proactively mitigate future risks.
• Working directly with the Executive Resolution team to resolve cases and prevent reputational or legal repercussions.
• Partnering with Safe & Secure teams and Market Operations to escalate vehicle theft and fraud cases.
• Enhancing internal fraud prevention policies and creating procedural documentation specific to STC fraud.
• Help to maintain training resources and guides to ensure Carvana teams are equipped to identify and prevent title/VIN-related fraud.

What you should know/have

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
• The ability to recognize problems, take the initiative to solve them, and escalate issues to facilitate timely resolution.
• Ability to manage and prioritize a large and varied caseload effectively.
• Determination to succeed and complete investigations in a thorough and timely manner.
• High attention to detail.
• A sense of humor - Kinda serious about this one
• A love for working with others and a strong understanding of teamwork

It would be great if you also had

• Bachelor's degree.
• Familiarity with payments, transactions, and banking.
• Experience compiling, organizing, and sharing accurate information with stakeholders to support decisions.
